We went to the city of Modena, which is half an hour by train from Bologna. Modena is known for balsamic vinegar, Ferarri, and Pavorotti, none of which we really were interested in. It does have an extraordinary Duomo, which began construction in the year 1099, It has survived looking more or less as it did back then.
The city itself, like all the others we saw, wonderful to walk around. Our impression, perhaps because it was a Monday morning, was that it was less lively than the others.
